At Perkins, math and science are joyful, naturally drawing on the curiosity innate in all children. Our  program offers rich, authentic contexts for developing 21st-century skills, leading students to a deeper appreciation and understanding of their world.

POWERED BY MATH

Mathematically literate students are better able to comprehend, critique, and challenge. Math is an essential part of the Perkins experience, with broad implications beyond our daily tasks of instruction, curriculum, and assessment. Our program engenders enthusiasm about mathematics, an appreciation of its value and beauty, and a feeling of empowerment by the opportunities it affords.

Science fuels CURIOSITY AND CRITICAL THINKING

Our science program inspires students to become ambitious and enthusiastic life-long learners, savvy navigators of challenges and mysteries, and to become discerning, critical thinkers. Perkins’ joyful, hands-on approach fuels every child’s curiosity on many levels: fostering the process of asking questions; exploring the unknown; testing predictions and ideas;  understanding the value of persistence; analyzing outcomes and conclusions. Science is an essential foundation for understanding and appreciating our complex, magnificent world.

We strongly believe that creating an engaging climate for a child’s early experiences with these vital subjects develops deeper levels of curiosity, inventiveness, and persistence, fueling their future success in the classroom and beyond.
