Welcome to Perkins Elementary School

Perkins is an independent elementary school in Seattle’s Maple Leaf neighborhood with early kindergarten through grade five education.

  • Perkins Elementary School was founded in 1995 in the heart of North Seattle.

  • We are a small private school with 130 students in K-5.

  • Small classes mean students are well-known.

  • Our competitive tuition is core to our values.

  • We offer a flexible extended day program.

  • We have strong curriculum in Science, Math, Technology, and Literacy which fosters creativity and curiosity.

  • Emphasis on sustainability, empathy, inclusion, and hands-on learning is an important part of our program.

  • Our specialist classes include French, Art, Music, and Technology.

  • Daily P.E., play, movement, and outdoor learning help balance our students’ education.

  • Our SEED Science building was the world’s first modular ‘living building,’ and underscores the importance of science and sustainability at Perkins.

A letter from Barry Wright - Head of School

We are happy you are interested in the Perkins School because we are proud of this place! If you visit Perkins during the school day, the first thing you will notice is smiling and engaged children. Our students are full of joy. They adore their teachers and are deeply invested in all elements of their school life. It also helps that we have a school dog!

At Perkins, we embrace the beauty of childhood. We hope you will attend an Open House and join us for a Campus Tour to observe classes in session.  Walk our halls, notice a clear sense of teacher, student, and parent ownership, a warm and welcoming community, and a genuine excitement about teaching and learning.

Our graduates develop a diversity of skills but also so much more.  They leave us even more excited to explore and analyze the complexities of the world, with a deep understanding and appreciation of a diversity of people and ideas. They are full of confidence, joy, and potential - and we couldn't be more proud of them.

In short, when a school is doing it right, students love coming to school.

Our kids do.

We like this place a lot.
